THREE STEP SPARRING - Sambo matsoki

There are numerous routines and techniques that can be used to practise three step sparring, below is just a guide or hand rail that beginners should be able to practise!!!

WITHOUT A PARTNER!

At the command of  "three step sparring ready  (sambo matsoki junbi)":

Move the right foot backwards to form a left walking stance from an attention stance  while executing a low block with the left forearm shouting "YA" as a ready signal.

At the command of "commence (Si jak)"

1. Moving forward walking stance middle obverse punch three times. Then move right foot back to parallel ready stance. Then move right foot back and continue to execute  middle inner forearm block in walking stance three times (Left hand, right hand, left hand) and then counter attack on the spot, reverse middle punch - The body  moves from half facing to full facing  while executing this.

2. Moving forward  front snap kick then into walking ready stance  three times. Then blocking, low outer forearm block three times and then counter attack reverse punch.

3. Moving forward front snap kick again three times. This time blocking using  low knifehand block and counter attack with  finger tip thrust aimed at the wind pipe or bridge of the nose.

4. Moving forward walking stance high level punch (your eye level) three times. Blocking using rising block three times (remember rising block is always full facing) then counter attack with reverse high punch on the spot.

Sambo Matsoki with a PARTNER!!

Preferably with a partner of the same height. Face each other and exchange bows.

Both partners stand at full length of stance to be used. The attacker's foot should overlap the front part of the outerpart of the defender's foot.

The attacker's foot is brought back to attention stance after measuring the distance to be used.

At command of "Sambo Matsoki Junbi"

Attacker moves right foot backwards forming a left walking stance and executing a low block with the left hand. The defender then moves left foot to form a parralel ready stance and both shout "Ya".

At the command of commence "Si Jak" executing steps one to four above. The attacker whilst stepping forward must place the forward stepping foot alongside the defenders foot appropriately, normally the attacker's foot will land alongside the defenders front part of the foot. On first step to the outside of defenders left  foot, on step two on the inner part of the defenderts right foot and then on step three two the outside of the defenders left foot again.  (This may vary slightly on different techniques - Your insructor will guide you on this).
